Our story dates back to 1960 in Lagos, Nigeria. A small family wanted to create an experience with shoes where every member of the Nigerian family could get good quality for Nigerians by Nigerians at an affordable price. When students resume school, their family members buy them second-hand shoes because they are supposedly cheap. However, second-hand shoes do more harm than good to a child’s feet, and most times, students return from school with sore toes because second hands shoes are not the best.
As the years passed, Nigerians preferred to use imported items. The Nigerian narrative was that if it’s not imported, it is not original. However, due to the persistent increase in the dollar rate, the prices of shoes changed and became more expensive over time. Famad knew that Nigeria had leather and everything needed to make quality shoes without importing material. Hence, we started to preach the Famad gospel of quality and affordability to every home.
Today, Famad has moved from being just a dream to an experience to having a continued dedication to the mission of providing quality, style, and comfort for Nigerians by Nigerians. The goal was not to have the Famad name known; it was to provide the Famad experience, and today, we have over 1 million families with at least one of the Famad shoes in their closet. FAMAD was created carefully for the Nigerian road and weather. FAMAD understands that sometimes Nigerian roads can become flooded, especially for families who live on the Island. Hence, FAMAD created waterproof rubber sole boots for children in school and parents at work.
